Mental Health Month Action Guide

Mental health is how we think, feel, cope with life’s challenges, and how we relate to others. Mental health is just as important as physical and spiritual health—especially in communities of color, where stress, trauma, and pressure are often carried silently across generations.

As believers, we experience anxiety, depression, grief, or emotional exhaustion just like the rest of society. Acknowledging challenges with our mental health does not mean we are weak or that our faith isn’t strong. Even those considered God’s strongest servants faced mental and emotional challenges. Jesus experienced and expressed deep sorrow and distress before His time on earth came to an end (Matthew 26:38). The Bible shares many stories that remind us that mental health concerns are not new, nor shameful, and that God is not distant from our pain—He meets us in it.

Mental health concerns are not a sign of spiritual failure; they are part of the human experience. God cares deeply about our mental wellness and invites us to experience healing, find rest, and have peace in our community.
