Kenneth Means was raised in Garland, Texas, by his grandmother and attended East Side Church of Christ. After graduating from Dallas Carter High School, Kenneth joined the McKinney Job Corps to study carpentry. He has traveled extensively in the United States, having lived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Roswell, New Mexico; and Bakersfield, California before returning home to Dallas, Texas. 

Kenneth has two brothers, one sister, two sons and a daughter.
