ABOUT TURKESSA (Academy Director)

Sister Shelley grew up going to church every Sunday, and she believed from an early age that Jesus died for the sins of the world. However, it wasn’t until her early twenties that she began to truly understand that miraculous sacrifice and how it should impact her life on a personal level. In 2001, Sister Shelley became a WBC member shortly after settling in the Lewisville area. AT WBC, she has been involved in various ministries through the years presently to include teaching Sunday Morning Bible Study, Music ministry, and Special Events team.

Ms. Shelley is originally from Tupelo, Mississippi. She graduated from the University of Mississippi (OLE MISS) in 1998 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. She attended Howard University for graduate school from 1998 to 2000 where she pursued studies in Audiology. She has been in the field of education for a little over 14 years. She taught pre-school for three years with a franchised preschool in Flower Mound, TX. She then went on to teach 2nd grade for five years in a charter school. Within that charter school system, she was promoted to director of their preschool program. She served as director there for four and a half years before joining the team at WBC Christian Academy in 2015. It has always been her mission to instill a love for learning in her students. Most recently her passion has evolved to not only encourage students but also educators to produce life-long, God-fearing learners. When Turkessa is not at the childcare center, you’ll find her curled up with an enjoyable book, cooking a new recipe, or crafting. Sister Shelley is so grateful the Lord allows her to use her passion for education and gift of teaching as Director of WBC Christian Academy.
